Meeting the members of the Malacañang press corps Monday night, Duterte said “He (Lapeña) is going to be the commissioner of Customs.”
In the midst of the P6.4-billion illegal drugs shipment, Faeldon thrice wrote the president asking for his relief.
With Lapeña’s appointment, Faeldon’s resignation is considered in effect, Duterte emphasized.
Duterte stressed, “Wala na. If I appoint Lapeña, automatic na ‘yan. No need [to give a resignation letter]. If somebody is appointed to the position, meaning to say, automatic na iyan, umalis ka.”
Making public Faeldon’s letter, Duterte revealed “From the tone of his resignation, he is really disappointed. But I really believe he is an honest man.”
Chief Supt. Aaron Aquino, director of the Cental Luzon office of the Philippine National Police, will replace Lapeña as PDEA chief.
Lapeña served as Duterte’s City Police Director and later, Regional Police Director while he was Mayor here.
Aquino once served Davao City Police as the Station Commander of Sasa Police Station
Both Lapeña ( Class 1973) and Aquino (Class 1984) are graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
