DAVAO CITY — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to act on the rising incidents of robbery hold ups involving motorcycle-riding thugs.

“There’s a spike of holdups na riding in tandem. May — somebody report it to me. So kindly look into this problem,” President Duterte told PNP chief General Dionardo Carlos during the chief executive’s Talk to the People aired on Tuesday.

General Carlos said the police will address the issue raised by the President.

Meanwhile, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año reminded the public that it is prohibited under Executive Order No. 28 to use firecrackers particularly during the celebration of New Year.

Local government units (LGUs) may designate community fireworks display areas permitted by the PNP with the supervision of a designated safety officer.

“Mas mabuti pa po sa ating mga kababayan na talagang tahimik na lamang i-celebrate ang ating New Year para na rin iwas COVID at iwas disgrasya sa paputok,” Año said.
