MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte does not want to appoint barangay officials.
Duterte on Tuesday said he does not want that he will be given power to appoint barangay officials even if his allies at the House of Representatives moved to postpone the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Citing a report that 40 percent of barangay captains are either into drugs or drugs cuddler, Duterte earlier raised the issue of appointing officers-in-charge in the barangays as the cleansing process of village chief in connection with his war on drugs is underway.
Under the consolidated bill passed by the House, incumbent barangay and SK officials will continue to function in a hold over capacity.
