DAVAO CITY — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday named Lt. Gen Archie Gamboa, PNP deputy chief for administration as PNP OIC Chief replacing Gen. Oscar D. Albayalde who stepped down Monday.

Duterte accepted Albayalde’s resignation and immediately named Gamboa as OIC.

Gamboa is Albayalde’s classmate at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Sinagtala Class of 1986. A simple turnover ceremony was administered by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

Gamboa, a Mindanaoan, is among the three top police officials shortlisted to officially succeed Albayalde. He was previously assigned in Davao City and has served MIndanao area for decades.

Abayalde went on a non-duty status just three weeks before his official retirement on November 8.
