DAVAO CITY, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte shrugged off impeachment complaint filed against him by former renegade soldiers belonging to Magdalo group.
Speaking before the FiIlipino community in Myanmar Monday night, March 21, 2017 he doesn’t care of the impeachment complaint filed by partylist Representative Gary Alejano and his cohorts as long as he is serving the Filipino people.
Alejanos group is contemplating of filing a case against Duterte before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for his alleged involvement in the shadowy Davao Death Squad when he was still mayor of the city.
Duterte who believes in destiny in his pre-departure speech Sunday, March 20 at the Davao International Airport quipped “I welcome both developments, They can do their worse. I can do better in y performance as a worker in government. This is democracy.”
Addressing himself to the opposition, Duterte stressed “Impeachment? If part of my destiny to, then It’s time to go, it’s like that.”
In Myanmar, he said “You can go ahead, impeach me or kill me, if you impeach me, I will just g home to Davao City and live a happy life, If you kill me? the country will have new president, I don’t take the post as a personal possession, I am here to serve the Filipino people,” he emphasised to the cheering crowd.
Alejano filed an impeachment case against Duterte for allegedly committing culpable violations of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption and other high crimes.
Many believe Alejano is being used by the opposition to oust Duterte as they failed to win the highest political position of the country during the May 2016 Presidential elections even if they tried to rig the result of the elections.
Alejano’s complaint was filed a days before Vice President Leonora Robredo in a video message addressed to the European Union to investigate on the Extra Judicial Killings related to the President’s anti-drugs campaign.
Presidential Legal Adviser Salvador Panelo believes the impeachment complaint is a mer black propaganda by the opposition as the have consistently failed to bring down the Duterte administration in their various attempt.
Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte yesterday, March 21 said if his father will be impeached “then so be it” he will just go home.
