DAVAO CITY — A jealous father hacked his favorite son to death and then killed himself by hanging on the their village gymnasium Monday night in Marilog district this city.

Marilog Police Precinct Major Nelson Violan told Newsline “Marital problem and jealousy are among the reasons we suspect which prompted him to do the crime.”

Violan identified the victims as Norguid Patubo, 40, a farmer and his 10-year-old son as Hayden, all residents of Purok 12, Sitio Kimasog, Barangay Marilog.

“The wife went to Saudi Arabia four years ago and never came home,” Violan added.

Che-chen, the 16-year-old daughter said her mother works in the Middle East and she is aware of the repeated misunderstanding and arguments between her parents every time they were on call.

At around 11:00 in the evening on the Sunday night, Chen-chen recalled she was awaken when she heard someone chopping and fresh blood splashed on her face, she saw his father looking at his younger brother “we see each other eye to eye then he threw the bolo at the kitchen and then ran, I was scared after a while I went out and checked if he was around I heard a thud from the gym” then she cried for help.

Rosalina Rebucias, a neighbor who came over saw Hayden’s body lying of the flood filled with blood,

“I When I entered saw it, the kid was still gasping, but I said we cannot save this, too much blood was coming from his neck,” Rebucias added.

Hayden, according to their neighbors was his father’s favorite child.

Minutes later they found Norguid hanging on the barangay gymnasium.

The police found a note in Norguid’s body telling his story “MANG, MAHAL TAKA IMO KONG BINUANGAN NOREN MAHAL TAKA OG IKAW LANG LABI NAKA CHE, PASAYLUA LANG KO NINYO, DILI LANG NAKO MADAWAT, PAALAM NA SA TANAN. MAGPAKAMATAY NAMI UBANON NAKO AKONG ANAK SI HYDEN” (Mang, I love you, you fooled me Noreen, I Love you and you alone especially Che, Forgive me, I cannot accept, Goodbye everything. we are going to die I will bring my son Hayden).”

The bodies of the father and his son now lie in state at a funeral home in Calinan waiting for Noreen to come home.
