Father’s day: Special action police in Basilan give roses to male motorists

June 16, 2017 by NewsLine Philippines Leave a Comment

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Despite the wounds of losing comrades from their organization in the Marawi crisis, members of the 54th Special Action Command of the Philippine National Police in Basilan took a twist to celebrate father’s day , Friday, June 16.

While manning the checkpoints, troopers led by PSI Junjun Daguro gave roses to male motorists eve of this year’s father’s day celebration.

Richard Falcata, a  broadcaster in Basilan was travelling when their vehicle was stopped and upon learning a   father  was onboard the vehicle, SAC troopers greeted happy father’s day and gave a rose.

Falcatan described the moment “Na-shock yong matanda. Sabi nya first time nya na greet ng father’s day at nabigyan ng rose sa Father’s  Day, kasi parang wala daw halaga ang Father’s Day kasi Mother’s Day lang daw naaaalala, natuwa talaga sya.”

(He was shocked. He said it was his first time to be greeted on father’s day and to receive a rose on father’s day, because he felt that father’s day is not important because  only mother’s day  remembered, he was really happy).

Daguro told Newsline.ph they were given instruction by their battalion commander Supt. Ledon  Monte to initiate “something” to make the father’s day special for the fathers  in their respective area of responsibility.

“At first naisip namin na mamigay ng letters, pero parang walang impact sa mga lalaki yon, kaya nag decide kami ng troop na roses ang ibigay, kasi kung sa babae nakaka-kiliti yon, siguro naman sa mga lalaki pareho din.”

(At first we thought of giving letters, but it would not give much impact to a man, so we decided to give roses instead, since if you give a rose to a lady– she is thrilled and maybe boys will feel the same.”

Daguro, a father of a young girl is away from his family to celebrate father’s day on Sunday said “ipakita din namin na may malasakit kami sa mga tatay na katulad namin, na may father’s day celebration kahit malayo kami sa pamilya namin, malayo kami para magserbisyo sa bansa (We want to show that  we care of the fathers like us, there is still father’s day celebration even if we are away from our families. We are away because we serve out nation).”

He said almost all father’s who received the roses  were so happy and their wives were also happy when their partners got the roses.-Editha Z. Caduaya with reports from Richard Falcatan/Newsline.ph
