For missing their families, three former rebels surrender in Agusan

DAVAO CITY — Fighting against poverty motivated them to join the revolution in the hinterlands several years back, but their psycho-social being ate them up and the longing for their love one’s was heavier than believing a false ideology.

This was the reason why three (3) members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered before the leadership of the 29th Infantry Battalion at Headquarters 29IB, Purok 4, Brgy Del Pilar, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte, on October 16, 2022.

The military in a press statement identified the FR’s as Joem Hurod alias Jack, 18 years old and a member of SYP16C1, guerilla front 16, North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC); Bobong Asay alias Jimmy, 23 years old, member of Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG), and Cristian Maca alias Dan,19 years old, member of SYP21C,GF21, NEMRC,

During the tactical interrogation, the military claimed Asay, who joined the revolution since 2018, revealed he wanted to be home because he missed his family who needs his attention and the revolution is no longer relevant to the present time.

The two other FR’s said hunger and starvation and the intensive military operations pushed them to go back to the folds of law and the new life being enjoyed by their former comrades in the mainstream society encourage them to get out from the movement.

The statement said LtCol Cresensio  Gargar, acting battalion commander of the 29th IB , called on the remaining members of the CTG to go back to the folds of the law saying the government is ready to embrace them and provide assistance to live a new and peaceful in the mainstream society.

“To those who remain to believe in useless and futile armed struggle please go back to the folds of the law, it is not too late to have a new and peaceful life. The gate of 29th Infantry Battalion is wide open in accepting those who want to surrender. Our government is in full support and has implemented the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program to support you in starting anew,” the statement added..
