Former Davao Councilor is new NCCA exec

DAVAO CITY — Three-term Davao City Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre has been appointed as the executive director of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Alejandre who used to chair the Committee on Tourism at the Davao City Council for nine consecutive years will replace Rico Pableo Jr., who also hails from Davao.

Alejandre told NewsLine.ph “Senator Bong Go called up two days ago to inform me that I am appointed by the President as the Executive Director of the NCCA.”

“I would like to thank the President for the trust and I will do my best to serve the people, this time with the NCCA,” he added.

He added “With this assignment given to me by the President , as the executive director of NCCA , i will do my best to execute the mandate of the commission, to facilitate the overall policy making body so as to ensure the preservation, development and promotion of the Philippine arts and culture. and also to administer the National Endowment Fund for Culture and the Arts (NEFCA) exclusively for the implementation of culture and arts programs and projects.”

The primary mandate of the NCCA is to formulate policies for the development of culture and the arts and to coordinate & implement the overall policies and program of attached agencies on the development of culture and arts as stated under Executive Order No. 80

Among its functions include: Administer the National Endowment Fund for Culture and the Arts; Encourage artistic creation within a climate of artistic freedom; Develop and promote the Filipino national culture and arts and , Preserve Filipino cultural heritage.

Alejandre will take his oath on Monday, September 9, before NCCA chair and National Artist Virgilio Almario.-ezc/NewsLine.ph
