QUEZON CITY – Former heads of the Department of Health (DOH) have expressed their unwavering support for Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa in his role as the leader of a united health sector. This show of solidarity took place during the “Secretaries Night” event, which marked the culmination of the DOH’s week-long celebration of its 125th Founding Anniversary.

The event, held at the Seda Vertis North Hotel on June 23, 2023, was graced by the presence of former officers-in-charge and secretaries who have steered the DOH in the past.

Among the attendees were former OIC Dr. Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire, former Secretaries Enrique Ona, Esperanza Cabral, Jaime Galvez-Tan, and Paulyn Jean Rossell Ubial. Each of these distinguished individuals expressed their wholehearted support for Secretary Herbosa’s leadership. Notably, the former heads of the DOH had served during various administrations, including those of Marcos Jr., Aquino III, Macapagal-Arroyo, Ramos, and Duterte.

In his address, Secretary Herbosa acknowledged the invaluable contributions of his predecessors, emphasizing that the present state of the DOH would not have been possible without their dedicated efforts. He commended their expertise and commitment to improving the lives of all Filipinos. Furthermore, he highlighted the challenges they had faced, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, to which he himself had served as a Special Adviser.

Although a few former health chiefs were unable to attend the event due to conflicting schedules or being out of the country, they still extended their support to Secretary Herbosa. Their absence did not dampen the spirit of unity and shared purpose that permeated the gathering.

“Health is a unifying sector, and I extend my gratitude to my fellow health chiefs for their unwavering support in our collective pursuit of providing Universal Health Care for every Filipino, regardless of their location. Together, we will continue to embody the ‘OneDOH’ concept and work towards the singular goal of serving our people and ensuring they receive the quality healthcare they deserve. We are united in our commitment to change and the well-being of all, for every life is precious,” Secretary Herbosa affirmed.

The “Secretaries Night” event not only served as a tribute to the achievements of the DOH over the years but also reinforced the unity and determination of the health sector to provide accessible and high-quality healthcare services to all Filipinos. – Department. of Health
