ILIGAN CITY – A former drug prisoner, who was able to apply for a probation, was killed in a drug buy-bust operation conducted by the Linamon Municipal Police Station, Saturday evening in Barangay Bosque, Linamon, Lanao del Norte.

Police identified the target of the operation as Erwin Cadiz, 37, married. Senior Inspector Teodorico Gallego, chief of Linamon MPS, said Cadiz drew his  handgun upon sensing he was transacting with a police asset.  “Dalawang beses siyang namaril, kaya nag retaliate na ang mag arrest sana sa kanya,” Gallego aded.

Cadiz succumbed to three gunshot wounds.

Police recovered from the suspect the caliber 38 pistol he used in firing to the police, a hand grenade, assorted sizes of plastic sachets containing substance believed to be shabu, cash worth 1,200 pesos and the 500 pesos buy-bust money.

Gallego said Cadiz was arrested and jailed last year in a buy bust operation but was able to apply for a probation.

“Mayroon kasi tayong plea-bargaining. After ng one year, puwede nang mag apply ng probation. Pero under monitoring natin sila at ng (Parole and) Probation Office,” Gallego said.

He added that police expect the suspect have already stopped his illegal drug trade but instead his area of distribution have widened. Divina Suson/NewsLine
