DAVAO CITY — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed the retired National Bureau of Investigation director Dante Guierran as the new president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

President Rodrigo Duterte announced Gierran’s appointment during the Inter-Agency Task Force meeting Monday night.

Gierran, a certified public accountant and a lawyer has been enjoying his retirement here for almost a year when he received a call from Senator Bong Go about the instruction of the President to get ready for the PhilHealth post as replacement of the beleaguered chief Ricardo Morales.

Morales has been in the eye of the multi-billion controversy involving the agency’s Interim Reimbursement Mechanism (IRM).

Gierran served as NBI director since June 2016 until he retired in February this year.

During his stay as regional director in NBI XI, he was known as a workaholic and strict in law enforcement. Newsline.ph
