“This is something that the people should be aware of, because the President is all too often used as an excuse (to postpone BSKE),” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said.

The election watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is against another postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Though some Lawmakers want to again defer the elections, Roque said as far as the Palace is concerned the elections has been scheduled on May 14, 2018.

At the lower house, Surigao  del Sur Representative  Johnny Pimentel is looking to defer the polls to October 2018.

Oriental Mindoro Representative  Reynaldo Umali would like to hold it on May 2019.

The BSKE was twice postponed, it was supposedly scheduled on  Oct. 31, 2016 but was moved to Oct. 23, 2017 and eventually rescheduled to May 14 this year.

President Rodrigo Duterte asked for the  postponement  saying illegal drug syndicates fund their cohorts during elections for their protection.-Harold V. Pontongan/Newsline.ph
