Lamitan City hosts Anti-Drug SummitPosted on
Lamitan City (September 26 ) — The City Government of Lamitan hosted the second Anti-Illegal Drugs summit today at the city’s gymnasium, in an effort to make the City drug-free.
Mayor Rose Furigay said a total of 2, 338 drug personalities surrendered and 12 out of the 45 Barangays have been cleared from illegal drugs while the remaining 33 barangays is still being worked out to be cleared of illegal drugs.
“The event aims to stimulate efforts and strengthen the coordination of the different stakeholders to overpower the problem of illegal drugs in the country,” Furigay added.
The activity was a joint effort along with the office of Vice Mayor Roderick Firigay, the City Councilors, the Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) students, representatives from the National Government Agencies and the barangay officials headed by ABC Federated President Manny Sumampil.
Basilan Provincial Governor Jim Salliman during his speech motivated the participants to change their lives and stay away from illegal drugs amd support the battle launched by Duterte administration through Oplan Tokhang and Project Double Barrel.
Salliman emphasized, the victory of the war on drugs depends on the effort of the community and effort of local officials in supporting the administration’s war “We play and important role.”
The summit is a big step towards attaining a drug-free city, “I can see the enthusiasm of the stakeholders and the strong support of the City Government to this campaign,” said Salliman.
The Governor believes the drug problem is despicable and that the only way to resolve is to fightit.
“The great part of the war is how we work together to end this problem. we need of our community leaders to take an active role in this fight. In Basilan Province, we express our support to the President’s war on drugs,” Salliman emphasized.-Richard G. Falcatan/NewsLine.ph
