DAVAO CITY – Governor Henry S. Oaminal of Misamis Occidental was honored with the Gawad Parangal by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) for his transformative leadership in fostering peace and development in the province.

The award was presented during the 6th NTF-ELCAC Founding Anniversary held on Friday at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. The event, themed “Building Peace Better,” highlighted six years of accomplishments in addressing armed conflicts and promoting national unity.

Key officials in attendance included National Security Adviser Eduardo M. Año, NTF-ELCAC Executive Director Undersecretary Ernesto Torres Jr., and DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan.

Oaminal dedicated the recognition to the people of Misamis Occidental, local officials, and partner agencies whose efforts have contributed to declaring the province insurgency-free.

“This award is a testament to the collective hard work and unity of our communities, local leaders, and partner agencies. Together, we have laid the foundation for a peaceful and prosperous future,” Oaminal said.

He also reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to sustaining progress, focusing on economic, social, and security reforms under the province’s vision of Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon, ug Malipayon (Peaceful, Progressive, and Happy Misamisnon).

Representing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Secretary Año praised the joint efforts of local governments, law enforcement, and communities in advancing sustainable peace across the nation.

Under Governor Oaminal’s leadership, Misamis Occidental has adopted the whole-of-nation approach to development, effectively addressing the root causes of insurgency through governance reforms and community engagement.

The Gawad Parangal is awarded to individuals and local governments that significantly contribute to ending local armed conflicts and advancing peace-building initiatives. Governor Oaminal’s achievements highlight the critical role of local leadership in driving meaningful and sustainable change.

The provincial government remains committed to building on these accomplishments, ensuring lasting peace and stability for future generations.
