DAVAO CITY — A Grade-9 public school teacher of Old Damulog National High School, Bukidnon celebrated his 51st birthday inside a detention cell, after he was caught selling suspected shabu to an undercover agent of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on October 10.

Teacher Rey Sungahid, 51, was arrested in a joint buy-bust operation by PDEA X-Bukidnon Provincial Office and Damulog police station at about 4:45 PM, October 10, 2019, at Purok 2, New Compostela, Damulog, Bukidnon.

Operatives found – 4 sachets of shabu weighing more or less two grams with an estimated market value of Php 16,000.00 in Sungahid’s posssession.

On Saturday, October 12, Sungahid celebrated his birthday in jail, he is now charged for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Aside from teaching, Sungahid is also a businessman, engaged in transporting and selling fruits but authorities learned that the vehicles were used to transport illegal drugs.

According to the Facebook post of PDEA X regional director Wilkins Villanueva, community leaders and PDEA personnel visited the teacher and asked him to undergo the community-based drug rehabilitation program (cbdrp) and stay away from illegal drugs, but ignored the call.

Villanueva added, they received reports that the teacher has been allegedly selling shabu to his students and fellow teachers.

The arrest of Sungahid arrest, Villanueva said, will strengthen the campaign of PDEA to push for random drug testing, not only for students but for the whole teaching and non-teaching staff.-ezc/NewsLIne.ph
