Grenade lobbed in Maguindanao del Sur police station

DAVAO CITY — A still unidentified type of grenade was lobbed at the compound of the Shariff Saydona Mustapha Municipal Police Station in Barangay Nabundas, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao del Sur, around eleven in the evening on Sunday.

Investigators of the Philippine National Police are currently looking at the motive behind the incident.

Brigadier General Allan Nobleza, Regional Director of the Philippine National Police in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) said the grenade landed on the septic tank of the station, no one was hurt.

The PNP has yet to determine the suspects but theorized that it could be a retaliation by a local terrorist group due to a series of raids and arrests conducted by authorities in Maguindanao del Sur in recent months.

The police have beefed up its security and established mobile checkpoints following the incident.
