DAVAO CITY — Bureau of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero stays in his post, this was clarified by President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night.

During the media interview Monday night, January 13, Duterte was asked if Guerrero will be replaced? then he quickly answered “No, no, no, no. Jagger… It was just — we were just shooting the breeze, who are the capable guys to handle. But it doesn’t mean to say that they are the one. Kung sakali lang. But I’m satisfied with General Guerrero and he stays there.”

But Duterte admitted there are still some complaints about the stay of some Customs personnel who are allegedly corrupt but he stressed “So, I’ll talk to him. Lalo na ‘yung mga tao na sinabi ko na paalisin na niya. Some of them are lingering there. So sabihin ko kay Jagger (Guerrero’s nickname), alisin mo na ‘yan kasi ‘yan ‘yung mga tao na who have been there for 25 years, 20 years, puro corruption ang ginawa.”

Duterte issued the statement after reports circulated that Davao Businessman William Lima was named to replace Guerrero.

Lima is currently the Special Envoy to China.

Guerrero used to work with Duterte as Task Force Davao Commander while he was City Mayor.-ezc
