MANILA, Philippines — The panel at the House of Representative Monday the proposal to postpone the October 2017 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to second Monday of May 2018.
The Committee voted 19-2 in favor of postponing the barangay and SK elections.
The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms chaired by CIBAC partylist representative Sherwin Tugna.
The postponement means the current barangay officials tenure will be extended until after the winners will take their oath.
Those who opposed the deferment include ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. Antonio Tinio and Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas.
Tugna said he expects plenary approval of the measure before the end of August.-Newsline.ph
