DAVAO CITY — The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (AITF-EID) has approved a backpack type barrier for a motorcycle as designed by ‘Angkas’ for their riders.

On Monday, National Task Force chairman and Defense Secretary, Delfin Lorenzana said the IATF approved the “special suit” or “backpack-type” design proposed by ride-hailing firm Angkas for back-riding in motorcycles.

“Effective immediately, the above barriers between motorcycle driver and passengers are hereby approved,” Lorenzana said in a statement said.

Lorenzana said motorists can now use a barrier designed like a backpack worn by the vehicle’s driver.

Last Week, the AITF in a resolution allowed motorcycle back riding for married couples, common-law couples, and live-in partners but it requires every user to put a physical barrier between the passenger and driver.

The Angkas’ design is a backpack-type barrier that has safety handles towards the bottom. The sides and top also fold outward towards the passenger, which should alleviate problems that flat-panel barriers have. -Newsline
