ILIGAN CITY – The Challenge Initiative – TCI and Zuellig Family Foundation organized a three-day “Program Design Workshop” held at Go Hotel. The workshop focused on the theme “Reduction of Teenage Pregnancies Through Development of Adolescent-Friendly Cities and Improved Access to Family Planning Programs.”
The TCI of the Philippines aims to address the issue of adolescent births by establishing a public health system that caters to the needs of the youth. The goal is to create adolescent-friendly cities and enhance access to family planning programs.
Mayor Frederick W. Siao of Iligan City leads the City Leadership Team, which collaborates with the Commission on Population and Development Region 10 and the Department of Health (DOH) CHD Northern Mindanao. The team consists of 14 members who participated in the 3-day Program Design Workshop for the years 2023-2025. The workshop aimed to develop strategies and high-impact interventions as part of the TCI program design for the upcoming years.
The initiative recognizes the importance of addressing the issue of teenage pregnancies and promoting the well-being of young individuals. By improving access to reproductive health services and creating an environment that supports adolescent needs, the program aims to reduce the prevalence of teen pregnancies in Iligan City.
The collaborative efforts of the City Leadership Team, along with the support of the Commission on Population and Development and the DOH, signify a commitment to addressing the challenges faced by adolescents in terms of reproductive health. The program design developed during the workshop will serve as a roadmap for implementing effective interventions and strategies to reduce teenage pregnancies in the coming years.
Through this initiative, Iligan City is taking proactive steps to empower young individuals, provide them with necessary information and services, and create a supportive environment that promotes their overall well-being. The reduction of teen pregnancies is crucial for the city’s development and the fulfillment of its youth’s potential.
