Iligan City traffic chief dies in road mishap

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The traffic chief of Iligan City Police died in a car mishap at around 12:00 noon on Monday, May 3, while on his way to Cagayan de Oro for his promotion.

PNP Iligan City Director Police Col. Rolando Cuya identified the victim as Police Major Abogado Mautin, 38, residente of Kuambugan town in Lanao del Norte.

Cuya said, initial investigation showed that Mautin was traversing the Iligan-Cagayan highway particularly along the national highway in Barangay Mauswagon, Laguindigan, Misamis Oriental, when the forward cargo truck rammed into the officer’s Innova vehicle after it lost control.

Rescue personnel immediately brought Mautin to the nearby hospital but he was declared dead upon arrival by the attending physician.

The local PNP has yet to provide the identity of the truck driver and the licensed plate of his vehicle.
