Jail guard killed as 8 inmates bolt Basilan provincial jail

ISABELA CITY, BASILAN — At least eight inmates bolted from the Basilan Provincial Jail shortly after 5 o’clock in the afternoon yesterday.

Basilan Jail Warden Nul Asmawil disclosed that the jailbreak happened when jail guard Habbas Sali entered in one of the cells, prompting the inmates to grab his gun and shot him dead before rushing out of the jail, bringing the guard’s gun.

Most of the escapees were charged with heinous crime.

A hot pursuit operation was immediately conducted by a joint police and military operatives, which led to the recovery of one Torotoy Abbas in Purok Gumamela, Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City, he was neutralized during the operation.

The seven other jailbreakers are on the loose and are the subjects of continued pursuit operations as of this post time.

Basilan provincial jail which is located in Isabela City houses 95 inmates.
