Japan picks 47 Filipinos as assistant language teachers

DAVAO CITY –— The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme picked 47 Filipinos to participate in its annual program for the year 2022.

The participants are composed of 46 Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs); and one (1) Coordinator for International Relations (CIR), they are scheduled to fly to Japan on 14 August 2022.

In a press statement the Japan Embassy to the Philippines stated that the the participants engaged in a series of activities aimed at preparing them for their duties in Japan. On 15 July 2022, the participants visited the Manila Japanese School (MJS) in Taguig City before they were sent toJapan.

The participants had the opportunity to observe English classes and meet with Filipino English teachers.

Just before they departed to Japan, Japanese Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko hosted a send-off reception for the participants at his residence.

It was the first send-off reception since 2019, Koshikawa congratulated the participants and shared his hopes for the program’s growth.

In his send off message, Koshikawa commended Filipino JETs for consistently excelling as cultural ambassadors that bridge Japan and the Philippines.In addition, the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC), in cooperation with the JET Alumni Association of the Philippines (JETAA-PHL), held a virtual pre-departure orientation for the participants on 30 July 2022.

The incoming JETs learned about life in Japan and the Japanese society and culture necessary for their role as ALTs and CIR.-ezc
