Kidapawan pageant aspirants plant trees in Mt. Apo

KIDAPAWAN CITY  — Candidates for the “Binibining Kalikasan” pageant on Tuesday went to the foothills of Mt. Apo, the country’s highest peak, to plant trees.

The nine candidates planted at least 50 different species of trees at the Arboretum, a botanical garden devoted to trees of the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in Barangay Ilomavis here.

Arboretum is located at the foot of Mt. Apo, where the EDC operates geothermal plants.

Nancy Ibuna, EDC head for external stakeholder relations officer, explained to the ambassadresses of environmental protection the importance of renewable energy.

The Search for Bb. Kalikasan 2018 aspirants are Juvie May Santander, Febie Joy Bati-ao, Geneva Alpas, Marian Gail Licatan, Alexandra Jane Abrilla, Trishia Faith Orog, Paloma Tubog, Cathleen Angelie Abler and Rica Jane Sabanal.

They all vowed, win or lose, to work for the preservation of the environment and advocate tree planting activities in every village of Kidapawan.

On Tuesday, the aspirants paid a courtesy call to Mayor Joseph Evangelista and assured him they will support all programs of the government relative to environmental protection.-Edwin Fernandez/PNA
