A magnitude 5 earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur early Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The tectonic quake struck 24 km. northeast of Lingig town at 5:16 a.m.
It was 28 km. deep and was tectonic in origin.
Intensity V was felt in Hinatuan, while intensity IV was felt in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
Phivolcs also recorded the following instrumental intensities: Intensity III – City of Bislig; and Intensity I – City of Tandag.
Reported intensity is the traditional way of knowing the intensity based on reports of people who felt the earthquake. Instrumental intensity, on the other hand, is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Phivolcs said it was not expecting aftershocks, but damages were likely from the magnitude 5 quake.
