Marc Cagas takes oath as Davao del Sur Governor

DIGOS CITY – Following the death of his father early the same day, Vice-Governor Marc Douglas Chan Cagas was sworn in as the new governor of Davao del Sur on Thursday afternoon.

Marc Cagas is the only son of Governor Douglas Ralota Cagas and House Representative Mercedes Chan Cagas for Davao del Sur’s lone district.

John Tracy Fortich Cagas, a senior board member for Davao del Sur’s First District, also assumed office as vice-governor of the province.

Josef Cagas, the mayor of Digos City, has a brother named John Tracy Cagas. Both are sons of late governor’s elder brother, Digos City Councilor Gary Cagas

Digos City Councilor Salvador Dumogho posted a picture of Digos City Mayor Josef Cagas signing the Oath of Office of Marc and Tracy Cagas on his Facebook page on Thursday afternoon, confirming that it was done after noon on June 10.

According to Attorney Ria Cagas-Fernandez, a niece of the late governor, Governor Douglas Ralota Cagas passed away at about 5:30 a.m. on Thursday within in the Medical Center of Digos Cooperative (MCDC) Hospital due to COVID-19 complications.Sherwin Cesar, Davao del Sur provincial information officer also announced d that Marc Cagas and John Tracy Cagas were sworn into office on Thursday.

Governor Cagas’ body was immediately brought to a funeral home in Davao City at 10 a.m. on June 10, where he was cremated until 2:45 p.m.

The governor’s ashes were placed in an Urn and taken back to Davao del Sur by his immediate family. The family has yet to decide where the urn will be placed for the people of Davao del Sur to visit the wake of their leader, according to Hiru Gustavo Undalok, assistant provincial information officer.
