BUTUAN CITY (November 3) – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)–Caraga has urged communities across the region to stay alert for possible landslides and flash floods as Severe Tropical Storm Tino moves closer to Mindanao.
In its Sunday advisory, MGB-13 said three cities and 37 towns in Caraga are vulnerable to rain-induced hazards, warning residents near rivers, slopes, and drainage canals to monitor water levels and report early signs of danger.
Surigao del Norte topped the list with 88 barangays highly prone to landslides and 263 to flooding, followed by Dinagat Islands, Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur. Surigao del Sur reported no landslide-prone areas but has one flood-prone barangay.
Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) were directed to report soil movement or rising waters, while residents were reminded to stay alert, prepare go-bags, and identify safe zones ahead of heavy rains.
