DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Mindanao Development Secretary Datu Abul Khayr Alonto lauds the Asian Development Bank’s infrastructure assistance to spur connectivity projects in Mindanao, citing that it would significantly contribute in developing the economic corridors in the island.
The ADB has approved 19 billion pesos worth of Mindanao-specific loan dedicated to improving national roads and bridges.
Mindanao Development Corridors is a key spatial strategy aimed to improve infrastructure, establish connectivity, and spur the development of growth clusters within the island-region, allowing it to achieve balanced and inclusive growth among its regions.
Alonto said the assistance will create ripple effects in Mindanao regions, as enhanced connectivity will also drive more investors, economic activities, and jobs.
“This is really all about bringing progress closer to the people, through connectivity infrastructure and we could not be more grateful to have ADB’s usual support,” he said.
He added that the transport and logistics studies of ADB served as critical inputs in firming up the strategic priorities for the Mindanao Development Corridors.
The corridors approach divides the island economy of Mindanao into four development corridors namely the Northern Mindanao Development Corridor, Southern Mindanao Development Corridor, and Western Mindanao Development Corridor, and the Bangsamoro Development Corridor.
