‘MNLF member’ nabbed for illegal gun possession

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police arrested a man who claimed to be a member of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) for illegal possession of a firearm in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Supt. Alvin Saguban, Pagadian City acting chief of police, on Wednesday identified the arrested suspect as Abdullah Yassen, 32, a resident of Purok Avocado, Barangay Tuburan in that city.

Saguban said Yassen was arrested at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday after he was allegedly seen yelling at some occupants of a boarding house as he was looking for his girlfriend while brandishing a handgun.

Fearing for their safety, the boarding house occupants sought the assistance of the Pagadian City police, which dispatched a team of policemen to Rizal Ave.

He said the responding team of policemen recovered from Yassen’s possession an undocumented .9-mm. pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition.

He said the suspect was detained while charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and election gun ban are set to be filed against him. -PNA
