DAVAO CITY, Philippines — “Let the people decide” this was the short answer of President Rodrigo Duterte on reports that Communications Assistant Secretary Esther Margaux “Mocha” Uson is being considered as among the candidates of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) for senator in 2019.
In a brief press conference after the launching of TienDA at the Abreeza Mall here Saturday afternoon Nov. 18, 2017, Duterte was asked of his opinion about the reports that Uson might run for senator come 2019.
Responding to reporters Duterte said “Kung ginusto nila yan, then that’s it. It will be honored by all, including the military and the police,” he said. “Pag yan ang pinili ng Filipino, you might not like her, her ways might not suit your values, but if that guy, or woman, is elected by the people, then you have to honor the choice.”
Uson, leader of a sexy all-female dance group Mocha Girls and is a staunch supporter of Duterte took her oath as member of the PDP-Laban in Cebu City Friday.
Last Friday, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez announced Uson is running for a senate seat but the later said she does not have any plan saying she is not a politician and she would rather remain a defender of her “Tatay Digong”.
Uson however quipped “Ask President Duterte first.”
Uson was appointed member of the Movie Television Review and Control Board (MTRCB) but months after she resigned and was again appointed as Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
