DAVAO CITY (April 18)-One person has died from complications linked to monkeypox in Davao City. The City Health Office confirmed the fatality after receiving a report from the Department of Health’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Two cases of monkeypox were initially recorded, both of which were admitted to the SPMC isolation facility. One of the patients died due to severe complications.

City Health is now tracing and monitoring all close contacts of the confirmed case to provide medical assistance in accordance with health protocols. The public is urged to remain calm but vigilant.

Health officials advise against close contact with individuals showing symptoms such as fever, chills, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, sore throat, headache, and pain in the anal or rectal area.

Monkeypox is primarily spread through prolonged skin-to-skin contact and is not easily transmitted from person to person. Authorities are encouraging individuals who are symptomatic to get tested and isolate while waiting for their results.

Vaccines remain available for eligible individuals, with free access through designated health clinics.
