ZAMBOANGA CITY – Almost 100 personnel and civilian employees from Naval Special Operations Unit 6, along with local and international participants, took part in the eleventh “Naked Warrior Run” as part of the 68th anniversary celebration of the Naval Special Operations Command (NAVSOCOM) under the Philippine Navy.

The event was held on Tuesday, November 5, at the Naval Forces Western Mindanao and Western Mindanao Command Camp in New Calarian, Zamboanga City.

The Naked Warrior Run, aimed at promoting fitness and building camaraderie, brought together participants from various groups, including Naval Special Operations Unit 6, Naval Forces Western Mindanao, Marine units, the Philippine Army’s Light Reaction Company, the U.S. Marine Corps, civilian runners from the local community, and members of the Jaycees Zamboanga partner organization.

The event is named the “Naked Warrior Run” as participants tackle the course barefoot or with minimal gear, showcasing their resilience and physical strength in a spirited, fun atmosphere.

The challenge involved a 100-meter swim and a 3-kilometer run, with four strategically placed “beer stations” adding an extra layer of fun and difficulty.

The race kicked off at the NSRE Beach, where participants waded through a 100-meter stretch of seawater to retrieve cans of beer buried under buoys filled with sand. From there, runners continued to the second station at the Western Mindanao Command (WMC) grandstand, and then to the third station at the Camp Navarro General Hospital (CNGH), where they had a brief rest before proceeding.

The final segment of the Naked Warrior Run required participants to complete all challenges, encouraging teamwork and building bonds between units.

Lt. Arnold Duque, the commanding officer of the Naval Special Operations Command, highlighted the event’s significance, stating that it demonstrated the unity, strength, and resilience of the Philippine Navy. He noted that activities like these strengthen friendships and build a sense of unity within the military and with the community.
