New AFP Chief assumes post

DAVAO CITY — New Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief Lt. Gen. Andres Centino assumes post today as Gen. Jose Faustino retires.

Centino assumed command of the 140,000-strong AFP after President Rodrigo Duterte signed his appointment.

Three Army generals were considered for the post according to military insiders: Centino, Southern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, and Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Greg Almerol.

Both Faustino and Centino belong to the Philippine Military Academy Maringal Class of 1988.

Faustino Jr. has reached the mandatory age of 56.
