DAVAO CITY —A new Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc. (RTMI) bus route connecting Cagayan de Oro City and Mati City, Davao Oriental—via the municipalities of San Fernando, Bukidnon, and Talaingod, Davao del Norte, is expected to unlock tourism and economic opportunities for previously underserved areas.

The route, which officially opened on March 3, 2025, marks a significant milestone as it strengthens connectivity between the provinces of Northern Mindanao, Davao Oriental, and Davao del Norte areas that were once known for insurgency but are now embracing development and progress.

According to Lt. John Andrew Gloriano of the 89th Infantry Battalion (IB), who represented LtCol Antonio Bulao I during the launch, the new route is more than just a transportation link. It is a symbol of transformation and progress.

This connection opens up areas that were once plagued by conflict and instability, making them safer and more accessible for travelers, businesses, and potential investors.

“For years, these areas were plagued by conflict, limiting mobility, stalling economic growth, and discouraging tourism. Today, they are symbols of peace, resilience, and renewal, ready to welcome visitors eager to explore their breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and untapped tourism potential,” Gloriano revealed.

With improved accessibility, local economies are expected to benefit from increased visitor foot traffic, greater tourism investments, and enhanced trade opportunities. The newly launched bus route will facilitate seamless connectivity between key cities and emerging destinations in Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, and Davao Oriental.

San Fernando Mayor Rogelio Yeke, who attended the event, welcomed the development as a significant economic boost for his municipality, which will now enjoy better access to business, tourism, and essential services.
