Scandinavian film fest in Davao to feature Pinay actress Mercedes CabralPosted on
DAVAO CITY (April 26) — Three ambassadors from European Union-member countries will be coming here on Sunday to lead the first Scandinavian Film Festival in the Philippines, which features Filipina actress Mercedes Cabral.
Expected to attend the grand opening on Sunday include Danish Ambassador Top Christensen, Swedish Ambassador Herald Fries, and Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines Bjorn Jahnsen.
The film festival is in partnership with SM Prime, SM Cinema, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
The April 28 to May 03 festival will feature thirty (30) contemporary films which will allow Filipinos to have an experience of Scandinavian film and culture.
Mercedes will be the role of a Filipina mail-order bride caught between a love triangle between the father and son.
In the movie ‘Rosita’, Mercedes is paired with Danish actors Mikkel Boe Folsgaard and Jens Albinus.
Mikkel won the Best Actor award in the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival where he was the lead role in the movie A Royal Affair; while Jens was featured in the controversial Lars von Trier film-Nymphomaniac.
Director Brillante Mendoza recommended Mercedes to Danish director Frederikke Aspock, when he was looking for a FIlipina actress to play the role of Rosita.
Aspock is an award-winning film director who won awards during the Cannes Film Festival, Deauville Film Festival, and Marrakech International Film Festival in the films Happy Now (2004) and Labrador (2011).
Mercedes worked with director Brillante in the films Serbis, Kinatay, Captive, and Thy Womb.
Mercedes is known among indie film circle where she played roles in the movie Ligo Na U… Lapit Na Me, Ang Nawawala, Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank, Bad Romance, Transit, Mater Dolorosa, Bingoleras, and Biktima.
She was also featured in a teleserye which include Hiyas, Luna Blanca, Cassandra: Warrior Angel, Magdalena, Bayan Ko, Katipunan, Genesis, and Rhodora X.
Mercedes was once adjudged as “Most Beautiful Woman” in Cannes when she attended the international film festival in 2009.
In 2009, she was among the cast of the movie a vampire thriller film by Park Chan-wook of South Korea titled Thirst.
In 2013, she was among the cast of Playtime by Isaac Julien; where she co-stars with James Franco and Maggie Cheung.-ezc/newsline.ph
