NHA releases P9-M assistance to fire victims

DAVAO CITY — The National Housing Authority XII released a total of Php 9 million financial assistance to families whose houses were demolished by the November 3, 2021 fire in Purok Saeg, General Santos City.

The fund taken from the NHA’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) benefited some 300 families who received P30,000 each. The distribution was held at Barangay Gymnasium, Calumpang, General Santos City on November 22, 2021

Engr. Zenaida M. Cabiles, NHA XII Regional Manager who graced the event remarked that the Authority is fast-tracking the validations at the fire incident site and processing of the documentary requirements in coordination with the City Government of General Santos and Barangay LGU of Calumpang so as to also extend financial assistance to the remaining families as soonest time possible, subject to further review and verification, in adherence to the Authority’s guidelines on EHAP.

The EHAP is a result of Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go’s initiative and approval of NHA General Manager, Marcelino P. Escalada Jr. on scaling-up of the Home Materials Assistance (HOMA) Program with Php 5,000.00 worth of materials to a minimum of Php 5,000.00 and maximum of Php 30,000.00 cash assistance to the calamity-affected families, depending on the assessed extent of damage to house structures.

Attending the event were Hon. Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles, Representative of 1st District of South Cotabato, Gen. Santos City Councilor Elizabeth Bagonoc, Barangay Council of Calumpang headed by Chairperson Arthur Ryan Dupalco and staff from the Office of Sen. Bong Go who raffled several items such as pairs of shoes, computer tablets, and bicycles, which, cheered-up the beneficiaries during the event.

United to deliver immediate housing assistance to families who were challenged to face such catastrophe, the NHA XII, through the leadership of Regional Manager, Engr. Zenaida Cabiles, the hardworking and proactive team of NHA XII-GSCKSCSar DO led by Engr. Fritzie M. Punzalan, regional and select staff from NHA-XII Kidapawan District Office, the event was made possible and timely facilitated in an organized manner, integrating gender lens and giving priority to Senior Citizens, Persons with Disability (PWDs), and pregnant women while serving the rest of the beneficiaries during the cash assistance distribution.
