DAVAO CITY — The provincial government of Davao Oriental denied reports circulating that one of its residents has been found positive of coronavirus pandemic.

The Provincial Task Force on COVID-19 issued a statement following Facebook posts circulating online and in some local media outfits claiming that “there are two new positive cases of COVID-19 in the province” as fake news.

“FAKE NEWS. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE AS THE PROVINCE IS STILL COVID-FREE WITH NO NEW CASES OF THE CORONAVIRUS,” the Task Force said in a statement.

The said fake news, which is baseless and is a clear example of the irresponsible use of social media, has caused unnecessary alarm and anxiety to many of our constituents. But just to appease everyone, the PTF on COVID-19 would like to make some clarifications in order to clear things out.

On May 6, two Davao Oriental residents arrived in the province. These residents availed of the May 6 Sweeper Flight from Manila to Davao and, as per protocol for assisting stranded persons, were subsequently transported directly to the Quarantine Center in the Municipality of Baganga where the two resides.

While these two residents are not beneficiaries of Oplan Sundo, they were transported to their municipality through the aid of the province and the municipality who facilitated their safe transport while observing the necessary health protocols, the statement emphasized.

Assisting these residents is in response to the national directives under the Bayanihan Act of 2020 which orders LGUs to assist returning OFWs.

The statement claimed, the returning residents remained asymptomatic but they stayed in isolation and are under quarantine while awaiting the result of the swab test conducted by health authorities.
