STATEMENT OF THE DAVAO CITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, INC. (DCCCII) RE. THE MARTIAL LAW DECLARATION IN MINDANAO:
Initially, this may lead to short-termĀ setbacks as investors may be wary of the implications of a state of martial law but as a community, this should be looked upon as a short-term sacrifice that will ensure our long-term progress. Better we pave the way for progress & development now than having to have our progress impeded by arrogant, morally misguided individuals or groups in the future.
There are obviously elements of our society who refuse to subscribe to the rule of law, who have no qualms about ending a person’s life & have no respect for the property of others. For years the past administrations have tried to persuade them to lay down their arms & pursue peaceful means in attaining their objectives. Yet, these efforts have been met with impunity.
The declaration of martial law is clearly a message to these elements that Mindanaoans are not going to allow these ruthless people to get away with their crimes against humanity, that their terroristic activities will not be tolerated anymore.
