Coronavirus : Kills but Heals

Posted on

I was inside my room, when I saw a big diving bird and playing around the neighborhood, enjoying the space and silence, it was then I realized, we were still on quarantine. Movement of people was discouraged if not necessary. Oops! it wasn’t like this before when most people and vehicles passed my window.

I stayed indoor as Coronavirus-19 pandemic has killed thousands around the world, and I need to protect myself, my family, and my friends-my contribution was to stay at home while I continue my studies through online classes.

Chilling while studying, and then the bird freely flies, enjoying the space without disruption, is one of human’s contribution to mother earth, COVID-19 has brought much adverse effect in our society, especially when many lives have been put to risk and given the fact that our country has been on the top of Asia’s most list in the number of cases.

However, despite the downfall that happened during these times, our environment has somehow had air to breathe in while we were all at home trying to avoid the possibility of contracting the disease.

We are on quarantine mode, lesser vehicle plying, lesser gas emission, lesser aircon functioning lessens carbon dioxide, factories are operating in a minimal load. Oh- the sea-the ocean- limited vessels criss-cross the water-fish has so much space to swim, their movement unconstrained unlike in normal times.

I passed by the market, more fruits were available, vegetables so healthy-Farmers are so happy, Finally, their effort is appreciated.

Our mode of transportation is also affected because we get to have minimal days on when we could go outside to get the needed supplies for us to sustain our daily needs while battling this pandemic and not adding additional problems to the government given that the number of positive cases grows each day.

Unlike before, the streets in our city now do not experience bumper to bumper traffic, which means that the smoke coming out of cars has brought less harm to our environment. Car pollution is a factor in our environment’s status that has been damaged because they release carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.

The pandemic that has struck many places has also given us a lot of positive effects in our environment that somehow made the skies even more precise, the water even bluer, and the streets even cleaner.

Although we might not like the idea of having to stay indoors for the sake of not being able to obtain the disease, we were forced to remain at home and do whatever it is that would help us surpass the boredom that we were experiencing as we stayed indoors.

We may not be able to appreciate the things that we are doing for our environment today because we are too caught up about the thought of not being ready to hang out with our friends outside, but in reality, we have made such a significant change in a short period of time compared to the times that we have been outdoors doing our usual activities.

We must not forget to be responsible enough to be more cautious not only to our health but also to the environment that was given to us, because our environmental health is also at risk as long as we disregard the fact that it is also sick.

Like us, we would also need to intervene to be able to help heal and let preserve our environment. For not only us to benefit from it, but also to the future generations to come.

It might take years to return to normalcy but-in the meantime. Mother Earth is telling us– Covid-19 heal her wounds while it last-everyone must be cautious given these trying times.
