MANILA — A total of 508 international and domestic flights to/from Manila were canceled as of Tuesday afternoon, latest data from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) showed.
MIAA general manager Ed Monreal announced Monday night that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be closed on Tuesday (December 3), from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., in anticipation of the possible onslaught of Typhoon “Tisoy” (Kammuri).
He said the 12-hour period may be longer or shorter, depending on the wind situation.
Once airport operations resume, priority will be given to flights originally scheduled from 11 p.m. onwards. Recovery flights will follow.
For the next three days, the regular schedule for runway maintenance (1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.) will be allotted to accommodate more recovery flights, Monreal added.
Meanwhile, local carriers have already canceled a number of their flights to and from airports outside Manila due to the typhoon.
“Tisoy” made landfall over Sorsogon late Monday night. It packs maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 205 kph.
The typhoon is moving westward at 25 kph, and was last seen 55 kilometers east of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro. –PNAÂ
