DAVAO CITY – A Pakistani national was apprehended by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Intelligence Division during a targeted operation in Makati City on March 27.

The BI identified the subject as Khasta Rahman, 42, who was arrested at a convenience store along Antonio Arnaiz Avenue in Barangay San Lorenzo. The bureau said Rahman was found to be undocumented and had overstayed in the country.

During the operation, Rahman failed to present a valid passport, prompting immigration agents to take him into custody.

BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend foreign nationals violating immigration laws.

“We remain vigilant in monitoring and apprehending those who abuse their stay in the country,” Manahan said.

Rahman was informed of his constitutional rights before being brought to the BI Main Office for documentation and medical clearance. A commitment order was later issued, and he was transferred to the BI Warden Facility in Taguig City.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the bureau remains firm in enforcing immigration regulations.

“Foreign nationals must comply with the legal requirements of their stay in the Philippines, or they will face deportation,” Viado said.

The operation was based on intelligence information received from an anonymous complainant. The BI said Rahman now faces deportation proceedings and will be included in the immigration blacklist.
