COTABATO CITY – Some 65 returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) received financial assistance during the 41st founding anniversary celebration of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-BARMM) held on May 3 at the Mall of Al Nor here.

“The event provided immediate financial aid to returning OFWs as a start-up or additional capital for livelihood projects, and support for those who have suffered difficulties and victims of natural or man-made disasters,” said the Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO) in a statement.

A total of P705,000 was distributed to 54 distressed OFW under the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program, and P60,000 was given to 10 qualified beneficiaries under the Humanitarian Assistance for Saudi Claims (OWWA-HASC) program.

The OWWA-BARMM also gave P220,000.00 to an OFW’s dependent as death insurance.

Regional Director Habib Malik of OWWA-BARMM said the agency will continue to provide services to former OFWs as well as active members of OWWA.

Malik encouraged OFWs to avail themselves of the services offered by the office and to seek help if they encounter difficulties.

BARMM Senior Minister Abunawas ‘Von Al Haq’ Maslamama said the Government of the Day is working closely with OWWA to provide relevant programs for OFWs.

“We work together with OWWA to ensure that all necessary support is provided to Bangsamoro OFWs in their pursuit to improve the socio-economic condition of their respective families,” Maslamama said.

During the event, Malik gave a general orientation of programs and services of OWWA-BARMM as well as current migration realities

The even was led by Malik, Maslamama, and Deputy Minister of Labor and Employment Tommy Nawa.
