COTABATO CITY – Authorities on Wednesday arrested a pregnant woman and a cohort during a joint anti-drug operation here and seized more than PHP100,000 worth of illegal drugs.

Director Juvenal Azurin of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) led the operation – which was also participated in by operatives from the Cotabato City Police Drug Enforcement Unit against – Meriam Kamsa Enok, who is five months pregnant; and Zamor Kasan Borero, both of Barangay Poblacion Mother, this city.

They were arrested at around 3 p.m. after the suspects handed over several sachets of shabu to a PDEA agent who acted as buyer of the illegal “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) substance along Quezon Avenue.

Seized from them were one medium size packet of “shabu” with an estimated street value of PHP100,000; five other small sachets of “shabu’; a disposable lighter; improvised tooter, fake identification cards, cellular phone, and marked money worth PHP130,000.

“We have been trailing the duo since last week and they appeared to have developed skills in avoiding anti-drug operations,” Azurin told reporters Thursday.

The suspects are now detained at the PDEA-ARMM lock-up cell and are facing charges for violation of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. –Edwin Fernandez/PNA
