DAVAO CITY — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is set to attend the inauguration of Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Jakarta, today October 20, as announced by Malacañang on Saturday.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo extended the invitation to Marcos for the inauguration of his successor, the Palace stated.

Accompanying the President will be First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Malacañang emphasized that Marcos’s attendance at the inauguration underscores the deep and enduring friendship between the Philippines and Indonesia, built on strong people-to-people ties. “The President’s presence at the inauguration also signifies the Philippines’ sincere commitment to further expanding and deepening bilateral relations,” the statement added.

During a meeting at Malacañang Palace in September, Marcos and Prabowo reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening ties between their nations.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Indonesia. The Philippines considers Indonesia one of its longstanding partners in Southeast Asia, as both countries are founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Marcos’s first overseas trip as president was to Indonesia for a state visit from September 4 to 6, 2022. This visit was reciprocated by President Widodo, who came to the Philippines for an official visit in January 2024.

Malacañang noted, “This exchange of high-level visits is a testament to the strong bilateral relations between our two democratic and maritime nations.”
