DAVAO CITY—From the proceeds of Larong May Puso of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, PCSO General Manager Royina Garma shared P1.46=million assistance to Easter Samar.
The amount was distributed to the beneficiaries in the local government of Arteche, Balangiga, Balangkayan, Borongan City, Can-avid, Dolores, General MacArthur, Giporlos, Guiuan, Hernani, Jipapad, Lawaan, Llorente, Maslog, Maydolong, Mercedes, Oras, Quinapondan, Salcedo, San Julian, San Policarpo, Sulat, and Taft.
Garma said the aid the distribution of assistance is part of their goal to reach out to more local government units in the country. “Majority of our funds intended for charity are for Universal Health Care, operations of Malasakit Centers, and help to government hospitals. Our aim is also to allocate some amount to help our local government units.”
She personally led the distribution of wheelchair, stretchers, face masks, face shields, gloves, personal protective equipment, and medicines to mayors and representatives from 23 towns in the province.
In her speech, Garma said “We are here to fulfill the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to distribute charity funds for those who are in need.”
She revealed that the lottery sales went down by fifty percent (50%) due to the pandemic but her agency will continue to provide funds for healthcare, especially with the increasing number of patients seeking medical attention amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) situation in the country.
The PCSO is mandated to set aside 30 percent of its revenue for charity, 55 percent for prizes, and 15 percent for its operation
