DAVAO CITY – In an exceptional display of democratic participation, persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from various jails in the Davao region exercised their right to vote in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 30.

A unique event unfolded at the Digos City District Jail – Male Dormitory as 98 registered voters among the PDLs seized the opportunity to participate in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. This remarkable exercise in civic engagement took place in the facility’s multi-purpose gymnasium.

In the province of Davao de Oro, 73 registered PDL voters from Montevista District Jail exercised their democratic rights by casting their ballots in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. The voting process took place at the Montevista District Jail Basketball Court.

Even in the confines of Tagum City Jail in Davao del Norte, incarcerated individuals participated in the election process by casting their votes for their chosen candidates in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Panabo City, Davao del Norte, saw 108 registered PDL voters given the opportunity to vote for their chosen electoral candidates in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections within the facility’s walls.

The engagement of incarcerated individuals wasn’t limited to rural areas. In Davao City, PDLs from the Davao City Jail Male Dormitory exercised their voting rights in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. Authorities ensured that the PDLs were given the chance to vote as nonpartisan party members, safeguarding the integrity of their ballots.

This unique display of democratic participation underscores the importance of inclusivity in the electoral process, ensuring that the voices of all citizens, even those deprived of liberty, are heard.
