DAVAO CITY— Philippines lawmakers hit European Union of the foreign interference in the country’s campaign against illegal drugs as the later demanded for the release of a legislator who was arrested on drugs charges.
The European Union lawmakers Thursday urged the Philippines government to release Senator Liela De Lima, a former Human Rights Commissioner who has been the staunch critic of Duterte.
The European parliament resolution also condemned the high number of extra judicial killings by the armed forces and the vigilante groups related to the anti-drugs campaign.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said “We remind everyone . including the international bodies, to allow us to deal with our problem, we have our own way of solving it and please do not intervene.”
Abella pointed out “Delima is facing drugs charges and she is not a political detainee as they project it to be.”
