DAVAO CITY — Visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe named and adopted the rescued Philippine Eagle “Sakura” (cherry blossoms) today, January 13, 2017.
“Sakura”, estimated to be around two years old, according to Philippine Eagle Foundation Executive Director Dennis Salvador was rescued from Talaingod in Davao del Norte last December, 2016.
To symbolize the adoption, Philippine Eagle Foundation executive director Dennis Salvador handed a stuffed toy Philippine Eagle and a portrait of the Eagle to Duterte as the later gave them to Abe during the ceremony held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel.
Present at the ceremony were the Prime Minister’s wife Mrs. Akie Abe, Duterte’s longtime partner Honeylet Avanceña, and Salvador.
The eagle suffered an airgun shot to her lower left abdomen and is still undergoing treatment at the Eagle center in Malagos, Calinan District this city.
