DAVAO CITY Philippines — Pope Francis offered prayers for victims of Typhoon Vinta.
In his weekly Angeus prayer Sunday, Pope Francis said “I wish to assure my prayers for the population of Mindanao in the Philippines, which has been struck by a storm that has caused numerous victims and much destruction.”
“May the merciful Lord receive the souls of the dead and comfort those who are suffering from this disaster,” the Pope added.
Storm Vinta devastated many areas in Mindanao.
It claimed about 200 people and displaced close to 70,000 families due to flasflood.
In Davao City alone, more than 16,000 families evacuated due to flashflood which hit the city on December 22.
Though hundreds of families have returned home, still many remained at the evacuation centers since because their houses were damaged.
While the city government provided all the basic requirements for the families meal on Christmas, still residents hope, they will be able to spend New year in their homes with peace.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
